Making solar simple for India
Going solar shouldn't mean decoding three contradictory quotes and a subsidy scheme nobody can explain. Solarcom exists so you can ask a straight question and get a straight answer.
Why we built this
Rooftop solar in India is a genuinely good deal. It is also, for most people, an opaque one. Two installers quote the same roof and the numbers differ by lakhs. A savings figure assumes generation that your city never sees in July. The subsidy is real, but the eligibility rules and the DISCOM paperwork change by state — and the person explaining them is usually the person selling you the system.
None of that is solved by another brochure. It is solved by talking to someone who already did it — ideally someone in your state, on a similar roof, with a similar bill.
That conversation was happening in scattered WhatsApp groups and buried Facebook comments where nobody could find it later. Solarcom is that conversation, in public, searchable, and organised by topic.

Answers come from installers, engineers and homeowners who have already done it — people with the scars, not a sales target.
India-grounded
Every answer is rooted in Indian reality: your DISCOM's net-metering rules, PM Surya Ghar slabs, state top-ups, and what things actually cost here.
Free, and public
Asking and answering is free and always will be. Threads stay public so the next person searching the same question finds the answer.
How we stay independent
A solar advice site funded by solar companies is a marketing channel wearing a costume. So the rules here are simple, and they're enforceable:
- No paid placement. Nobody can buy a higher answer, a badge, or a spot in a listing. Answers rise by community votes.
- Vendors must disclose. Installers and manufacturers are welcome — they often give the best answers — but they have to say so in the same post when recommending their own product. Hidden promotion gets the account removed.
- No ads, no tracking. There are no advertising cookies, no third-party analytics, and no data-broker sharing. We use two cookies, both to keep you signed in.
- We don't sell your details. Asking a question here does not put you on a call list.

What we can't do for you
Answers here are community opinion, not professional engineering, financial or legal advice. A role badge means someone is a recognised contributor — it is not a warranty of competence, and we don't inspect anyone's roof.
Our calculator gives an estimate from generalised assumptions. Your real numbers depend on shading, roof orientation, equipment, and your DISCOM's tariff — all of which move. Before money changes hands, get a written quote from a DISCOM-registered installer and check the scheme rules on the official portal.
We're also a small operation. Moderation isn't instant, and email replies take a couple of working days.
