- Open for applications until the end of FY 2026-27 (31 March 2027). No extension has been officially announced yet.
- Subsidy rates are unchanged since the scheme launched in February 2024.

What size system do I need?
Check the units on your electricity bill. The portal suggests sizing to your average monthly consumption:

Who is eligible?
- Indian residential households with a valid electricity connection.
- You own the rooftop (or have permission to install).
- Installation done by a vendor registered with your DISCOM.
- Subsidy is for residential rooftop — separate schemes apply for housing societies and commercial/industrial.
How to apply
- 1Register on the national portal pmsuryaghar.gov.in with your electricity consumer number and mobile.
- 2Apply for rooftop solar and wait for feasibility approval from your DISCOM.
- 3Get the system installed by a DISCOM-registered vendor.
- 4Submit plant details and apply for net metering.
- 5After inspection and meter installation, upload bank details — the subsidy is credited to your account.
PM Surya Ghar subsidy: common questions
Is PM Surya Ghar still open, and when does it end?
Yes. The scheme runs until the end of financial year 2026-27, which is 31 March 2027. An extension has been reported as under consideration, but none had been officially announced when this page was last checked — apply through the national portal rather than waiting.
How much subsidy do I get for a 3 kW rooftop solar system?
₹78,000 — ₹30,000 per kW for the first 2 kW and ₹18,000 for the third. That is also the most a single home can get: a 5 kW system still receives ₹78,000.
Is the subsidy higher in special category states?
Yes. In special category states and union territories, such as the North-Eastern states, the rate is ₹33,000 per kW for the first 2 kW and ₹19,800 for the third — up to ₹85,800 in total. Check the portal to confirm whether your state is included.
Can a housing society or RWA get the subsidy?
Yes, for a connection that serves only common facilities such as lifts, corridor lighting and water pumps. The capacity allowed includes any plants residents have already installed themselves; check the current per-kW rate on the portal.
Do I have to use Indian-made solar panels?
Yes. The scheme requires solar modules and cells made in India, installed by a vendor registered on the portal for your DISCOM. Ask your vendor to confirm the panels qualify before you sign.
Can I get a loan for rooftop solar under PM Surya Ghar?
Yes. Households can get collateral-free loans at around 7% interest for residential systems up to 3 kW, applied for through the same portal. Rates change, so check the current terms there.
How long does the subsidy take to arrive?
Once installation is inspected and your bank details are entered correctly on the portal, the government reports an average of about 15 days from your redemption request to payment.
Do state governments give an extra subsidy?
Some states add their own top-up on top of the central subsidy, and the amounts change often. Ask on the forum — installers working in your state will know the current rule.
